Scenes from Wyoming

I mentioned from my last blog post that we would be in Utah and Wyoming for a good part of July.  One of my main goals was to have family pics made. Thankfully, I achieved this goal!  They were taken just outside of Lyman, WY where my husband, Duane is from.

I have to mention that it was *Not* easy standing there due to the awful yellow flies (like horse flies) and mosquitoes.  I had never encountered such awful bugs in Wyoming in my life.  People said that the large (and unuusual) amount of rain brought more bugs out than usual.  They were definitely feasting on us!

Here's two taken at Ft. Bridger, WY, not far from Lyman.  London, 2 1/2 years old was not cooperating at all.  It was 6pm, she was tired and wanted nothing to do with posing for pictures.

I captured the most beautiful rainbow one day after a rain just outside of Duane's brother's house.  It was a full rainbow, I went in the house to get my camera and by the time I came out it had turned to just half of one.

One day we went with my parent's (from Florida) fossil hunting.  They were vacationing in the same area.  Coincidentally, my mom's brother lives in the same small town in Wyoming as Duane's family.  I know, weird!

It was nice to go and visit but also very nice to come home to our own beds.  The weather this time of year in Wyoming and Utah is fab-u-lous!  Trust me, you people living out there may think you're sweating hot but compared to south Alabama, you're not!

The Desert Scene Family Photo Shoot

One evening a couple of months ago after the kiddos went to bed I started surfing the net. I was being just a bit nosey/snooping (as I can be sometimes) and happened upon Elyse and Clint's blog. A couple that attend the same church as me and my family. I was in love with the stunning background and eclectic/hippie style of clothing they were wearing. Not to mention this family happens to be easy on the eyes.

It occurred to me that in a couple of months my famiy and me were going to be out West in Utah and Wyoming (where husband is from).  (I believe this picture was taken somewhere in Utah.)  And that we could do a similiar photo shoot out in the desert somewhere.  Sort of with that hippie/desert feel.  I've set about getting clothes together that I'd like everyone to wear.  Here are my picks:

London who is 2 1/2 years old is going to wear this adorable dress that my mom made a while back.  Regan has this hippie vest and blouse paired with a skirt that my mom is currently making for her.  I've got this precious vintage dress (to the right) that someone gave to my mom, that she passed onto me that I will wear.  Duane will be wearing a light blue polo shirt.

I've had this child's vintage squash blossom necklace that my mom had when she was a child.  I wear it at least a couple of times a week as a choker.  I was going to wear it with the dress.

I have to mention that we coordinated the trip to be out there the same time that my parent's (who live in Florida) will be vacationing in the same area so my mom is going to take the pics.  She's pretty good at taking pictures and definitely has an artists eye so I'm hoping she'll be able to capture us at our best.

Introducing the New Masterbath

So, I've been chomping at the bit to share some pics of the totally gutted and remodeled masterbath.  I must say that I have looked high and low for the before pics and I Can't Find Them.....just one where we're in the middle of construction!  I'm very irritated by this.  Imagine the 1960s blue tiles, that style that was in so many homes of the 60s, except these were all cracked and just pure ugly.  There was a shower (no bath) a small sink and just a alot of ugliness!  We have also enlarged the bathroom; where the tub/shower is now located, was where a large linen closet was.  It is now half the size but still in the hall.

You can't see the floors but we put large square slightly off white ceramic tiles down.  We were trying to keep a clean and somewhat neutral palette since we would like to sell the house sometime in the near future.

Here's our kitchen that we finished remodeling a while back.  I wish you could have seen it before.  A total eyesore with ugly brown linoleum on the floor (hardwood floors now that match the rest of the house), pink countertops, disgustingly icky appliances and I could go on...........

It's only taken us, or should I say Duane, 9 months to get this bathroom remodel (semi) finished.  He has worked his tushy off.....there was soooooo much to be done!  Not to mention that some weeks he had no time to work on this because of working so many hours at his "real" job.

It's still not finished:  crown molding to be hung, the edges of the tile in the masterbath still needs work, the mirrors need to be hung, no window treatment.  That cute little tray above the toilet needs to be hung too.  I'm still deciding on any other decoration, but I'm kind of enjoying things the way they are.

It was pretty much Duane who did all the grunt work, while I chose the colors, design, cabinet, etc.

Nerd Boyfriend

I was just reading some of the articles on the frontpage of Etsy and found this totally cool article. A guest curator who has the blog http://www.nerdboyfriend.com/. She puts together stylish vintage pictures of men and then locates where similiar pieces of clothing can be found in these more modern times. This website is soooo fun! The style I liked the most was the one below of Simon & Garfunkel.  But mostly the ensemble of the black peacoat and khaki pants.....okay, so I'm kinda into preppy.

The Ikat Trend

Anthropologies newest home decor line includes the Ikat print.  A feathered, flame-like appearance.  Ikats date back centuries and are created by tying and dying lengths of yarn before weaving.  I like these prints because of their ethnic, funky and colorful appeal!

The Vanity Search.

We have a 1950s-60s house that we have been slowly remodeling for the past 8 years. Probably by the time we're done with the remodel we'll have to start over again because everything will be outdated (hah!) . Actually, we're on our last leg of the remodeling journey with the remodel of the bathrooms. Currently we're doing the masterbath.  This bath was previously covered in a bluish tile.  Believe me, I like vintage bathrooms but this one was just plain ugly!

This bath has been gutted down to the studs and sub flooring.  This coming week we will be doing the sheetrock.  By the way, ALL of the remodeling has been done by my hardworking hubby, Mr. Thomas.

We really wanted a nice looking vanity with 2 sinks.  We thought we'd get an English sideboard and install 2 sinks in it.  We searched high and low in Dothan but couldn't find anything that we liked.  We took a trip to Mollywood Imports that's about 5 miles South of Dothan; 30,000 sq. ft. of imported Indonesian furniture.

I especially Loved this piece.....not for the price though.  I think it was around $1,000.

I like the lines on this piece and I love green, I'd probably tone down this green a bit if it were to go in my house.

So, we ended up buying a vanity from the Home Depot yesterday.  I like it.  It looks like a piece of furniture and has black painted finish and will fit 2 sinks.  Although we paid a bit more than we wanted, we found what we were looking for!

Sweaters, Sweaters and more Sweaters.......

I've been trying to keep a good stock of sweaters in my shop lately since it's the season to be wearing them.  I acquired about 6 lovely vintage sweaters from a closed down thrift/antique shop recently in the town that my parent's live.  Yep, a closed down and abandoned shop packed with vintage and antique finds with the doors unlocked and even partially open...the doors have been this way for several years now! Okay, okay.......I'm not gonna go into this story any longer.  Needless to say, I figured out how to get these sweaters in an ethical way.  I've listed some of them.
